Mendoza, Argentina: Hiking the Andes and Wine Tasting 2014
While visiting Mendoza, we stayed in a wine lodge in the Lujan de Cuyo Valley. The food and wine was terrific along with great hiking in the Andes! The main hike took us to the top of Mount Arenales on a beautiful summer day. We spent a couple of days wine tasting in the Lujan de Cuyo and Uco Valleys. The area has 1,400 bodega’s (grape growers and wineries), 600 producing and selling, with 200 that you can visit. We tasted at several wineries, including large global wineries to small family start-ups. The Malbec’s were outstanding, as you might expect. However, we did like several of the cabernets, chardonnays, sauvignon blancs and different blends with some blends including the Spanish
tempranillo grape.
